| To observe an ordinary object and re-create it through century old techniques to the extent that it captures a viewers attention, captivates me. I love to find the line and shape of the objects and landscapes that surround us and simplify them, sometimes to the point of abstraction. To watch a viewer take a second look at a print of an ordinary bottle or a watercolor of a couple of flowers is such an accomplishment. It is hard today to catch someones attention without the means of violence or other cultural normalities for which we face. To use something so subtle as color and shape to distract a viewer from their everyday on goings holds a satisfaction rarely found. |
